Born in Parramatta, David Hawkins has a huge commitment to and passion for the art of Musical Theatre and Cabaret in all its genres. He started his performing career as a chorister at St. Andrews Cathedral in Sydney, which led to Opera Australia in 1987. He has performed in over twelve productions for Opera Australia including Carmen, Tosca, Werther, Turandot, Othello and Baz Luhrmann's original revolutionary production of La Boheme. David studied with the highly respected vocal tutor, Bob Tasman-Smith in 1991 and soon started working in Cabaret shows at Sydney's famed Tilbury Hotel, including Old Friends, Back in Business and New Dogs.....Old Tricks! Due to the success of his concept shows and the closing of the Tilbury he started his own company Showtune Productions in 1996 and revived Sydney's famed 70's music venue 'The Kirk Gallery'. |

David appeared in the 'Pier Group Cabaret' for The Sydney Theatre Company in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He also did research for the Bazmark/Fox movie Moulin Rouge. He followed this by launching his first one man show, The Soul is Sexless at The Kirk. David has also recorded vocals for On Our Selection, The Magic Pudding, and the voice of 'DingoMan' in Wednesday Kennedy's Virginia Woolf Goes To Centrelink, for ABC National Radio. David left
the Kirk in 2000 to concentrate on his performing career, devising
a one man show , Nom de Plume, with writer Wednesday Kennedy.
This played to critical acclaim at Cabaret venues across Sydney
for over a year including Side On, La Bar, Kabarett Junction
and the Clarendon Cabaret at Katoomba. |

He opened a new Cabaret room for Sydney in October 2001: Kabarett Junction at Bondi Junction. David recently appeared at Kabarett Junction in a season of an intimate cabaret devised by Jim Sharman. David joined the national tour of 'Shout! the musical of the wild one' in 2002, playing the acclaimed role of Lee Gordon. |
